Frequently asked questions

Clear answers before you schedule.

What is hurricane fabric?

Hurricane fabric is a lightweight opening-protection system made for windows and doors. Custom panels attach to permanent hardware installed around each protected opening.

Is hurricane fabric removable, and how is it stored?

Yes. The panels are removed between uses, labeled for their matching openings, and can be rolled or folded for compact storage.

Can I deploy the panels myself?

Most homeowners should be able to deploy the clearly labeled panels after GulfGuard’s professional installation and demonstration. Unusually large openings may be easier or safer with two people.

Will I need power tools?

Normal seasonal deployment does not require power tools. The exact attachment method depends on the hardware used for your installation, and GulfGuard will demonstrate it before your project is complete.

Will anyone need to enter my home?

Consultations, measurements, discussions, and installation are designed to be completed outside in most cases, so interior access is ordinarily unnecessary.

Can hurricane fabric cost less than impact windows and doors?

For many properties, protecting existing openings can be substantially less expensive than replacing every window and door. Actual pricing depends on scope, opening sizes, access conditions, and system requirements.

Could this reduce my insurance premium?

Possibly. Your carrier determines eligibility based on the home, policy, inspection, and documentation. GulfGuard will provide guidance on what to ask before the consultation.

What happens during the consultation?

At your consultation appointment, we will discuss any questions you may have about our products and process, gather necessary measurement information for your property, and present a written proposal for you — all in one convenient appointment.

Does hurricane protection require a permit or inspection?

Requirements can vary by property, scope, and local jurisdiction. GulfGuard will explain the permitting and inspection steps that apply to your project.

What areas does GulfGuard serve?
